Forecast-based optimization of operating strategies for industrial and community energy storage systems in a multi-stakeholder environment

The project StorageLink is used to research and test a data-based optimization of operating strategies for battery storage systems. Economic revenues are increased by simultaneous storage usage in multiple applications (e.g., peak shaving, frequency regulation, self-consumption improvement). Live data from the network operator, weather forecasts and other influencing factors generate forecasts for electricity demand and supply. A predictive operating strategy uses this data continuously to improve the operation strategy. Battery measurement data is used to model the system to predict the performance of the storage system. For model validation data from prototype storage systems is used. In order to make the concept economically viable and sustainable, the existing legal framework and innovative technologies (such as Blockchain) will be extensively studied and possible future scenarios will be developed.

Together with the project partner Smart Power GmbH, a workshop series will be organized with experts from research and industry on the following topics:

This research project is funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy in the program information and communication technology (grant number IUK-1711-0035) and supported by the project management VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH.
