Vita

Thomas Ahndorf received his diploma 2004 in electrical power engineering and automation from the University of Applied Science in Karlsruhe, Germany. After this he started a postgraduate study also at the University of Applied Science in Karlsruhe and received his Master degree in Electrical Engineering in 2006 with distinction. From 2006 to 2010 Mr. Ahndorf worked at the associated Institute of Power Transmission Systems of Technische Universität München as a Ph.D. student. His research was focused on the grid connection of large scale offshore wind power to the German transmission grid. From 2010 to 2013 he worked for the German TSO TansnetBW GmbH (former EnBW Transportnetze AG) in Stuttgart at the asset management department and was responsible for system analysis of the transmission grid and network dynamics. In October 2013 he was appointed as professor for the subject area of power engineering at the University of Applied Science in Karlsruhe. His main research is the assurance of system stability and the evaluation of network dynamic processes. Another field of research is the transmission of electric energy via high-voltage direct-current transmission (HVDC) and its impact on the transmission network.
