Workshop on Grid Modernization and Resilience in Converter Dominated Power Systems
The TUM Chair of Electric Power Transmission and Distribution, in collaboration with UT-Dallas Jonsson School of Engineering, is pleased to announce an international workshop on Grid Modernization and Energy Systems. This three-day event will be held at the TUM Science & Study Center Raitenhaslach from June 1-3, 2026.
Workshop Objectives
This workshop brings together leading researchers, industry experts, transmission and distribution system operators, and technology providers from Germany, the United States, and international partners to address critical challenges in power system transformation. The event combines technical presentations with structured collaborative sessions designed to foster international research partnerships and define joint research agendas.
The workshop addresses the urgent need for grid modernization to accommodate large-scale renewable energy integration, converter-dominated power systems, massive load growth from data centers and electrification, and the evolution of grid operations. Through focused technical tracks and collaborative working sessions, participants will identify research gaps, establish international partnerships, and develop frameworks for joint projects.

About the location
The workshop will be held at the TUM Science and Study Center Raitenhaslach
Nestling in the beautiful Bavarian landscape flanking the river Salzach, the former Cistercian monastery Raitenhaslach exudes inspiration and historical charm. After extensive restoration work, the monastery's late-baroque prelate's wing has been developed into a hub of international academic discussion.
Close by is the city of Burghausen home of the world's longes castle (> 1000 m long) and a beautiful old town with its colourful houses in the Inn-Salzach style.
