Topic

Over the past few years, there have been particularly dynamic developments in the technology domains of e-mobility / xEV and AI data centers. Delta Germany is playing a decisive role in shaping developments on both of these technological fronts. The first part of the joint presentation discusses recent and future topologies of efficient automotive on-board chargers (OBCs), while the second part is dedicated to the challenges and new fundamental concepts of power architectures (grid-to-chip) for hyperscale AI data centers. In the future, power electronics will be used even more consistently throughout the entire power supply path, extending into the medium-voltage domain. Solid-State Transformers (SSTs) are going to find their way into AI data centers and EV/E-Truck fast-charging stations.
Presenters

Dr. Peter Ide, Managing Director, Delta Energy Systems Germany
Peter Ide received the Dipl.-Ing. degree and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Paderborn University, specializing in power electronics, magnetics and control theory. During his doctoral studies, supported by industry partners including ABB (later ASCOM), he developed a strong foundation in power electronics and collaborated with engineers who continue to shape the industry today. In 2001, he joined ASCOM and has remained with the organization becoming part of Delta Electronics. He is currently the General Manager and Head of Research & Development at Delta Energy Systems (Germany) GmbH, Soest, Germany, where he leads innovation activities and the development of advanced power electronic solutions. With nearly three decades of experience, his work has accompanied the growing importance of power electronics across a broad range of industries, including energy infrastructure, data centers, industrial applications, and e-mobility. His professional interests include energy conversion systems for EV charging and industry, and the application of innovative power solutions.

Dr. Frank Schafmeister, Head of Advanced Technology CDBU, Delta Energy Systems Germany
Frank Schafmeister received the Ph.D. degree from ETH Zurich, Switzerland. From 2007 to 2017, he worked at DELTA Energy Systems, Germany, where he developed high-power supplies for hyperscale data centers and automotive applications, later leading Advanced Technology and product development activities for server and telecom power supplies. In 2017, he joined the Department of Power Electronics and Electrical Drives (LEA) at Paderborn University, Germany, leading the Power Electronics group. From 2023 to 2025, he served as acting professor and head of the LEA department. Since mid-2025, he has been heading Advanced Technology activities at DELTA Energy Systems, focusing on new power architectures for AI data center applications, energy transition and e-mobility.
