Lathes
The lathe is a machine tool for the production of mostly round workpieces by removing the material with the help of a turning tool. The lathe can produce bodies of revolution, in the simplest case cylindrical or flat surfaces perpendicular to the axis of rotation. The cutting movement is performed by rotating the workpiece while the cutting tool (turning tool) is firmly clamped on the tool slide and continuously removes a chip by moving the slide longitudinally as well as transversely to the axis of rotation of the workpiece along the surface to be machined.
